By annotating survey responses, you&#8217;ll be able to access specific response lists quickly, as well as detecting hidden patterns in our reporting dashboard.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tag survey responses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"manual-tagging\">Add tags manually<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Tagging a survey response manually can be done in the <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/reporting\/survey-response-lists\/\">Survey Response list<\/a>, as well as the <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/data-index\/data-model\/\">User Details Panel<\/a>. If you tag a response with somthing that doesn&#8217;t exist yet, a new tag with be created automatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ai-tags\">Add tags automatically with AI <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of tagging survey responses manually, you can also use the Refiner AI for automatic response tagging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get started, go to Settings &gt; Tags and create a new Tag. In the tag\u2019s Description field, provide an instruction that tells our AI when this tag should be applied. Tag descriptions can be quite short, and we recommend experimenting with different phrasings to get the best results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are a couple of tag descriptions that you can use:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"raw\" data-enlighter-theme=\"\" data-enlighter-highlight=\"\" data-enlighter-linenumbers=\"\" data-enlighter-lineoffset=\"\" data-enlighter-title=\"\" data-enlighter-group=\"\">The response text has a positive tone.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"raw\" data-enlighter-theme=\"\" data-enlighter-highlight=\"\" data-enlighter-linenumbers=\"\" data-enlighter-lineoffset=\"\" data-enlighter-title=\"\" data-enlighter-group=\"\">The response text mentions UX issues.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"EnlighterJSRAW\" data-enlighter-language=\"raw\" data-enlighter-theme=\"\" data-enlighter-highlight=\"\" data-enlighter-linenumbers=\"\" data-enlighter-lineoffset=\"\" data-enlighter-title=\"\" data-enlighter-group=\"\">The response has a high NPS score of 9 or 10<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>When saving the tag, you can choose to check the most recent survey responses against it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tags that were added through AI are marked in a different color and with a robot icon as shown below.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"228\" src=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Screenshot-2025-03-10-at-17.31.13-1024x228.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26541\" srcset=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Screenshot-2025-03-10-at-17.31.13-1024x228.png 1024w, https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Screenshot-2025-03-10-at-17.31.13-800x178.png 800w, https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Screenshot-2025-03-10-at-17.31.13-768x171.png 768w, https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Screenshot-2025-03-10-at-17.31.13-1536x342.png 1536w, https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Screenshot-2025-03-10-at-17.31.13.png 1688w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"automated-tagging\">Add tags programmatically<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It is also possible to automatically tag responses the moment they are stored in your Refiner account. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are running Web App Surveys, you can leverage the <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/javascript-client\/reference\/#tag-response\">tagResponse<\/a> method of our JavaScript SDK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Email Surveys, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/email\/email-survey-embed-code\/#tags\">customize the Embed Code<\/a> to automatically add tags to responses. For Survey Pages, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/pages\/personalize-survey-links\/#tags\">add tags with URL parameters<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to leverage tags<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"filter-responses\">Filter survey response list<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you tagged responses, you&#8217;ll be able to use tags in the filter section of your survey response list. Besides displaying the most popular tags in a Tag Chart, you can also filter response data by in each chart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"trigger-alerts\">Trigger Alerts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Next to filtering responses in your Refiner dashboard, you can use Tags to trigger Team Alerts.
