In practical terms, a segment is a dynamic list of users who meet a defined set of criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Segments are a core component of Refiner. We call these types of segments <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/segmentation\/data-driven-segments\/\">Data-Driven Segments<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also group users manually, either by selecting them in your user list or by providing a list of users from an external source (e.g. another tool you are using). We call those segments <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/segmentation\/manual-segments\/\">Manual Segments<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both segment types are managed in the same section of your Refiner environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What you can do with segments<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>User segments play an important role in Refiner and you\u2019ll see them in many different places. Segments allow you to<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Create target audiences for upcoming surveys<\/strong>. You can use segments to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/in-product-surveys\/target-audience\/\">survey a specific group of users<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Better analyze your survey data<\/strong>. Segments allow you to filter survey responses in your Reporting Dashboard and look at your data from different angles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Show only specific answers in your Feedback Hub<\/strong>. This is helpful when you only want to read through responses from a certain group of people, for example your Power Users or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/blog\/nps-follow-up-emails\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NPS Promoters<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Trigger an integration<\/strong>&nbsp;when a user enters a segment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Send a notification to your team<\/strong>&nbsp;when a user enters a segment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The ability to create user segments based on traits and tracked events opens up many interesting use-cases when targeting your users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can for example create segments based on subscription data and then compare how different customer groups responded to a survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or you can survey users who performed (or did not perform) a certain action within your application.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Introduction The User Segments page displays all users who have recently connected to your app or responded to a survey.
