Once Refiner is installed, you can create new surveys, change their content, and adjust most campaign settings directly from the Refiner dashboard without making additional code changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Web applications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For Web App Surveys, install the <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/javascript-client\/client-introduction\/\">JavaScript SDK<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can install it using:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A JavaScript <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/install-client\/javascript\/\">code snippet<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/install-client\/google-tag-manager\/\">Google Tag Manager<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/install-client\/npm-package\/\">NPM package<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Choose the installation method that best matches your application and follow the corresponding JavaScript SDK installation guide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mobile applications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For Mobile App Surveys, install the <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/mobile-sdk\/getting-started\/\">Refiner Mobile SDK<\/a> for your platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Refiner supports:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>iOS<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Android<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>React Native<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flutter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Follow the installation instructions for your platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: Identify your users<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For applications with logged-in users, we recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/javascript-client\/anonymous-vs-identified-users-mode\/\">identifying users<\/a> whenever possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Send Refiner a unique user identifier &#8211; typically the user ID from your own application &#8211; and optionally additional user traits such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Plan<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Role<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Account type<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Signup date<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Company<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Language<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any other information useful for targeting or analysis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Identifying users allows Refiner to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Link responses to the correct user<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Target surveys using user traits and behavior<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Track previous survey interactions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recognize users across sessions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add user context to survey responses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sync feedback with external tools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You decide which user data you want to send to Refiner. There is no need to import everything from your application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Anonymous website visitors<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Web App Surveys can also be used on public websites without identifying visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to survey anonymous visitors, configure the JavaScript SDK accordingly and select the appropriate Audience Type for the survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anonymous users provide fewer targeting and integration options than identified users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: Track user behavior (optional)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can send behavioral data to Refiner when you want surveys to appear at specific moments in the user journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, you might track when a user:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Completes onboarding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Uses a particular feature<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Creates their first project<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Makes a purchase<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Upgrades their plan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Web applications can send <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/data-index\/tracking-user-events\/\">Tracked Events<\/a> through the JavaScript or Mobile SDK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mobile applications can send Tracked Events and information about the current screen the user is viewing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This step is optional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For your first survey, you can keep the setup simple and add behavioral tracking later if your targeting strategy requires it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4: Create a survey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to <strong>Surveys<\/strong> in your Refiner dashboard and click <strong>Create survey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Creating a survey starts with two choices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Choose a Delivery Method<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For this Quickstart, choose:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Web App Survey<\/strong> for a web application or website<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mobile App Survey<\/strong> for a mobile application<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Refiner also supports other <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/survey-editor\/survey-delivery-methods\/\">Delivery Methods<\/a>, such as Survey Pages, Email Surveys, and Embed Surveys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Choose a Template<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>After choosing the Delivery Method, select one of our ready-to-use <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/survey-editor\/survey-templates\/\">Survey Templates<\/a> or start from scratch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Templates are available for common use cases such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>NPS<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CSAT<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CES<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Product research<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>User onboarding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Churn research<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>User profiling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marketing attribution<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Calls-to-action and announcements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Templates are only starting points. You can change every part of the survey after selecting one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 5: Customize your survey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the Survey Editor to adapt the survey to your needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/survey-editor\/customize-questions\/\">Add, remove, and reorder questions<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Change wording and answer options<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add follow-up questions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create branching logic<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add message panels or calls-to-action<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/design\/branding\/\">Customize the design<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For your first survey, we recommend keeping things simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A short survey with one clear objective is easier to test and usually leads to a better user experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 6: Choose who should see the survey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In-App Surveys use a <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/in-app-surveys\/target-audience-3\/\">Target Audience<\/a> to determine which users are eligible to see a survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can target users based on criteria such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>User Segments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>User traits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>User behavior<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Previous survey interactions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Country<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Language<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Device type<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mobile platform<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For your first test, a broad audience such as <strong>All logged-in users<\/strong> is often the easiest option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once everything is working, you can create more precise audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 7: Choose when the survey appears<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/in-app-surveys\/launch-trigger\/\">Launch Trigger<\/a> determines when an eligible user sees the survey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on your setup, surveys can be triggered:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Immediately<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After a time delay<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When a user visits a page<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When a user visits a screen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When a Tracked Event occurs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Programmatically<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For your first survey, an Immediate or simple Time Delay trigger makes testing easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can introduce more contextual triggers later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 8: Preview and test your survey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before publishing, review the survey and verify that the questions, survey flow, and design look correct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preview Web App Surveys<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Web App Surveys include a <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/in-app-surveys\/in-app-surveys\/#preview\">preview option<\/a> that lets you display the survey directly inside your application. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Test the actual delivery flow<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To test the complete setup, publish the survey and use a test user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can create a <a href=\"https:\/\/refiner.io\/docs\/kb\/segmentation\/manual-segments\/\">List Segment<\/a> that includes only you and your colleagues, then use it as the Target Audience.
