Rating Chart
Introduction
Our Rating Charts are a flexible way to visualize results from any survey question that uses a rating scale. This chart type works with survey responses to Star & Number Ratings, NPS and CSAT questions, making it ideal for a wide range of use cases.

Chart layout
The chart follows the same two-panel layout as our NPS and CSAT charts:
- Breakdown view (left) – Displays the current average rating along with a distribution of all submitted ratings.
- Timeline view (right) – Plots the average rating over time, helping you track trends and spot changes in sentiment.
Ratings charts can be freely positioned and resized on your dashboard, allowing you to create a layout that works best for your reporting needs.
If the chart is resized to a narrow width, only the Breakdown view will be shown.
Flexible data selection
Like all our charts, you have full control over which survey responses are included.
You can:
- Choose the data source by selecting the question(s) you want to analyze.
- Filter responses by user segment, specific survey, or response tags.
You can add multiple Rating Charts to the same dashboard to compare results between different user groups or surveys side by side. For example, compare ratings for trial users vs. paying customers, or different regions.
Best Practices for Rating Charts
- Track trends over time – Use the timeline view to see how ratings change in response to product updates or campaigns.
- Segment for actionable insights – Break down ratings by user attributes to uncover meaningful differences between groups.
- Use for multiple question types – Apply this chart type to any numeric or star-based question, from post-support satisfaction to feature feedback.
- Compare related ratings – Place multiple rating charts side by side to understand differences between product areas or customer touchpoints.
- Combine with qualitative feedback – Pair ratings with follow-up questions to get context behind the numbers.
